A Virtual Rank (VR) is a digital queue in the app that organises airport bookings on a first in, first out basis. Just like a physical queue, the first driver to join gets the first job offer, based on the passenger's request criteria (such as Taxi XL). Virtual Ranks are available at the following airports:
- Heathrow
- London City
- Stansted
- Gatwick
FastPass: your shortcut to the front
FastPass gives you priority access within the Virtual Rank, helping you get your next offer without waiting as long as drivers in the regular queue.
When you accept and complete an eligible low-value trip from the airport, you'll automatically receive a FastPass. This moves you up in the Virtual Rank for a set priority period:
- Heathrow: valid for 2 hours
- London City: valid for 1 hour
- Stansted: valid for 4 hours
- Gatwick: valid for 3 hours
You can also chain FastPasses together: if you complete another eligible low-value trip while your FastPass is active, your priority timer resets for another full period (1/2/3/4 hours, depending on the airport).
Example (for a 2-hour airport):
- You complete an eligible trip at 10:00 → You get a FastPass until 12:00.
- You complete another eligible trip at 11:30 → Your FastPass resets and is valid until 13:30.
How to use the Virtual Rank
- Enter the airport area: as you drive into the airport boundary, we'll send you a notification guiding you to the designated Waiting Area. You won't receive standard booking requests while inside this zone.
- Enter the Waiting Area: tap 'Join Queue' on the pop-up that appears on your screen. You'll then be able to see your exact spot in the queue.
- Wait for your turn: as you move up to the front, you'll receive an exclusive job offer. You'll have around 30 seconds to accept it.
- Accept and pick up: accept the job, head straight to the pickup point and you're good to go.
What happens if plans change?
- If you decline or ignore an offer: you'll move to the back of the rank.
- If a passenger cancels: you'll keep your spot at the front of the rank.
- If you cancel after 5 minutes: if you have to cancel because the passenger didn't show up after waiting 5 minutes, you'll also keep your spot.
Reasons for queue removal
To keep the rank fair for everyone, you'll lose your spot if you:
- leave the grey waiting area
- turn off your GPS or lose mobile signal
- use two phones at once
- cancel a trip after accepting (unless waiting 5 minutes for a no-show passenger)
Top tips and good to know
- Keep your GPS on: this ensures we can track your position in the rank accurately.
- Stay in the waiting area: staying inside the grey zone on your map keeps your place safe, as leaving the area will reset your queue position.
- Accept offers promptly: you have about 30 seconds to accept a job before the offer passes to the next driver in line.
- Check queue sizes anytime: tap the airport sign on your map whenever you want to see how many taxis are currently waiting.
- Pickup spots stay the same: using Virtual Ranks won't change your usual pickup location in the airport car park.
- FastPass availability: FastPass is issued for eligible low-value trips to help reduce your wait time. What counts as a low-value trip depends on your local airport, and while it speeds up your wait, it doesn't guarantee an immediate job if passenger demand is low.
