To help you to access high-value demand from North American travelers visiting Europe, Freenow is integrating with Stripe to enable secure international payments.
What is Stripe?
Stripe is a payment platform partnered with Freenow to manage Black Cab drivers’ earnings from international bookings (Lyft bookings).
It allows you to accept bookings from Lyft users, ensuring that all international transactions meet strict security standards.
When will I receive the payout from the Lyft bookings?
You will receive these earnings automatically, same as your regular weekly payouts, though payout dates may vary. You will receive two separate transfers during your payment week:
- one from Lyft (international bookings) and
- your standard transfer from Freenow.
How to view your Lyft payments
In the Driver app: Check the Earnings section (Balance tab) for a clear breakdown showing both your Freenow and Lyft income sources.
In the Freenow Portal: Both the Invoice and Earnings sections will display separate line items for Lyft bookings, making it easy to track all your trips.
On your invoice: You will continue to receive one single invoice, but it will clearly distinguish between Freenow and Lyft bookings.
Note: While you receive one invoice, remember that you will see two separate bank transfers in your account each payment week (one from Lyft and one from Freenow). How to accept/object Lyft bookings
You will receive an email regarding our updated GTC, effective May 1st. You do not need to take any manual action to accept these changes. If you continue using Freenow services 15 days after receiving the email, you automatically agree to the new terms.
You can view our General Terms and Conditions here.
If you do not wish to accept the new GTC, you have the right to terminate your agreement within this 15-day window. To do so, please contact us via the chatbot (select 'Account management' option).
In this case, you can continue using Freenow, but you won’t be eligible for the bookings coming from the Lyft users.
To chat with us, go to our 'Help' section in the app and open a new conversation. If you need help with a trip, make sure to select the relevant booking.
How are Lyft bookings charged?
All Lyft trips are strictly cashless. Payment is handled automatically through the app integration and processed via Stripe.
For your security and to ensure accurate bookkeeping, these transactions must remain digital. If a passenger's payment fails or they insist on paying cash, please politely inform them that the platform does not allow manual transactions for these trips and ask them to update their payment method within the app.
Accepting cash for a Lyft booking is a violation of our GTCs.
FAQ's
Q: Why is Freenow updating its terms to include Stripe?
- A: We are integrating Stripe as a secondary payment platform to process transactions from international partners. This ensures we comply with the latest financial regulations for international payments and enables us to bring you more high-value demand from foreign travelers in the future.
Q: Do I have to manually accept these new terms?
- A: No. Under Section 15.3 of our GTC, we use "Tacit Consent." By continuing to use the Freenow app 15 days after receiving the notification email, you automatically agree to the updated terms. If you do not agree, you have the right to terminate your agreement within that 15-day window.
Q. Do I need to do anything to access Lyft bookings apart from accepting the new GTCs
- No, you won’t need to do anything else. We’ll make sure everything is set up so you can receive Lyft bookings and payments via Stripe once you’ve tacitly accepted our GTCs. In some cases, we may contact you if we need additional documentation ((like a clearer photo of your ID or proof of addreess) to complete your setup. Keep an eye out for notifications in the app.
Q: How is my data protected?
- A: Stripe is a global security leader. Freenow shares only required info for ID verification. We do not store your ID images.
Q. I'm an employed driver (I work for a Fleet Company) - Am I affected by these changes?
- A: No. You can continue using the App as usual. If you want to know whether you are eligible for Lyft rides, consult your Fleet owner.
Q: When will I see changes in my app?
- A: While the legal update happens now, you will likely not see any changes in your earnings screen until May 31. The new "Lyft bookings" line only appears once you complete your first trip from an international partner.
