Freenow is simplifying the VAT invoicing process for VAT-registered drivers in Ireland.
Starting from May 2026, Freenow will automatically generate VAT invoices for eligible bonuses on your behalf through a self-billing process. This means you will no longer need to create and submit your own VAT invoices for these bonuses.
Who Is Affected
In Ireland, drivers who exceed the applicable income threshold are considered VAT-liable and must comply with VAT regulations.
Which Payments Are Covered
Standard transportation revenue share remains VAT-exempt. However, quest bonuses and other eligible bonus payments are subject to VAT and are included in the self-billing process.
How Self-Billing Works
Under the new process, Freenow will automatically create VAT invoices for eligible bonuses paid from May 2026 onwards.
These invoices should be used for your records and VAT reporting purposes.
Your Responsibilities
Although Freenow will handle the invoice generation, you remain responsible for your own tax obligations, including:
- Filing your VAT returns with the relevant tax authorities
- Ensuring your tax reporting is accurate and up to date
- Manually reporting and handling VAT for any eligible bonus payments received before May 2026
- Informing Freenow when you become VAT registered, so your account details can be updated accordingly
Important Information
The self-billing process applies automatically to eligible bonuses paid from May 2026 onwards. No additional action is required from drivers to activate this process.
